现为中国科学院动物研究所动物进化与系统学院重点实验室节肢动物多样性与资源研究组组长，国家动物博物馆副馆长兼标本馆馆长，《中国动物志》编委会编委，《Zoological Systematics》编委会编委，中国昆虫学会蜱螨专业委员委员，中国动物学会蛛形学专业委员会委员。主要从事蛛形纲蜱螨亚纲的系统分类学研究。合作发表蜱螨亚纲50新种、10新记录属、33新记录种；对一些科、属进行了世界性或全国性的订正研究，并对一些形态特征进行了首次描述；开展我国室内致敏螨类物种调查，指导研究生发现我国致敏螨类一新纪录种。
先后主持或参加国家自然科学基金委、科技部、教育部、中国科学院等各级部门研究项目二十余项，发表研究论文80余篇，参编专著2部。
今后的研究重点将集中在蜱螨甲螨亚目的系统分类、形态与功能研究，并对与人类生活密切相关的农业螨类、医学蜱螨类等开展多样性与资源调查研究。
指导在读博士研究生1名、硕士研究生2名，已毕业硕士研究生5名、联合指导博士研究生1名。
1987年至1991年在陕西师范大学生物系学习，获理学学士学位；
1991年至1994年在陕西师范大学动物研究所攻读硕士学位，获理学硕士学位；
1994年至1997年在中国科学院动物研究所攻读博士学位，获理学博士学位；
1997年至2007在中国科学院动物研究所动物进化与系统学研究中心工作；
2003年1月至2004年1月前往加拿大农业及农业食品部ECORC研究中心进修；
2003年6-7月参加美国俄亥俄州立大学(Ohio State University)举办的第53届蜱螨学夏季培训班(53rd Annual Acarology Summer Program)
2008年至今在中国科学院动物研究所国家动物博物馆工作。
