1976年毕业于中国科技大学，1983-1985分别在瑞士日内瓦大学和联邦水科学与技术研究所进修。1992-2000年先后担任生态中心环境水化学国家重点实验室副主任和主任。2001以来是国家863计划污染控制技术主题专家组成员和副组长和资源环境领域专家组成员，2006年以来是国家水体污染控制与治理科技重大专项总体专家组成员，河流主题专家组组长。担任过国家自然科学基金委员会地球科学部第二、三届咨询专家委员会委员。目前是国家自然科学基金委第三届监督委员会委员委员，生态毒理学学报主编，环境科学学报副主编、Environmental Science and Health (A)，Water Quality, Exposure & Health等杂志的编委。先后指导博士后5名，培养博士生20余名，培养硕士生20余名。已经在SCI刊物上发表论文170余篇，在国内核心刊物上发表论文250余篇，申请国家发明专利15项。
